Pottery Intensives

Introduction

Pottery Intensives are short, intense, opportunities to build your skills as a potter through demonstrations, discussions, and lots of one-on-one mentorship and direction.

They are perfect for those who want to dedicate themselves wholly to their practice with the expert guidance of a potter who has over 30 years of experience.

Techniques taught

The techniques taught depend entirely on where you are and what you’re interested in learning. While each Intensive has a topic, the intensive begins with a group discussion about what you and the other participants want to learn, and we co-create an agenda. Throughout the week we check back to make sure that you are learning what you came to learn. Emphasis is on individual growth - we will work one-on-one to improve your throwing skills.

Want to… Up your production skills? Learn to throw larger? Work on surface decoration? Refine your shapes? Get figurative? Blend handbuilding and throwing? … whatever your needs are, we can help you grow.

Teaching method

Before your intensive starts, we discuss where you are and where you want to go, and we establish a learning plan. Once onsite, each studio day involves demonstrations, exercises, one-on-one instruction, personal feedback, and critiques.

Prerequisites

In these intensives, previous experience with clay is very useful, but not necessary.

Logistics

Cost includes pick up and drop off from Grosseto train station, breakfast and lunch each day, 6 hours of instruction a day, up to 8 hours of additional studio time each day (for a total of 14 hours a day), a choice of clay bodies, and access to all the clay you can throw. Rarely do you get a chance to use unlimited amounts of clay like this!

Access to the studio is from 8 am - 10 pm.

Maximum 4 participants.

Accommodations are extra and are priced individually. You'll be sharing a cottage onsite (but up the hill) with other participants. The house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living room areas, a kitchen, and a dining room. You have a choice between a bedroom with a single bed (60€ a night) and a bedroom with a double bed (75€ a night). Bed linens and towels are included. The kitchen comes stocked with salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, coffee, tea, and sugar and all the tools you'll need to cook.
